Scriptwriting & Self-Doubt

Scriptwriting and self doubt

My secret love of consuming TV shows is something I wrote about a while back. I’ve wondered in what way I might use writing in my career & if I should be teaching myself scriptwriting skills. I did take an elective at uni in scriptwriting… But then I think, I can’t do scriptwriting because I can’t write dialogue!

So then I think back further to creative writing in high school – I’m not sure I ever did well on descriptions in those stories either.

And then my brain shut down. What else is there?

If I think I can’t write dialogue & I can’t write descriptions then what on earth was ever in any creative writing that I’ve done?

Does anyone else ever have a total brain fart in knowing what you can actually do in a topic?

  1. Everyone has self doubt at times but you need to believe in yourself Vanessa. Practice dialogue… then post about it and put it out there. I would love to read it.

  2. Yep…been through self-doubt several times! Last semester when we had to write 2 short stories, I had a complete mind blank for a while because even though I had ideas, I was stuck with how to execute them. I find taking a break helps but then coming back and just writing without caring for the specifics is good too…because eventually, things like dialogue and scenes play themselves out.
