Wednesday Food Post – Snacks

Ever since early 2011 when our lives were forced to revolve around food choices, we’ve struggled to find a good snack. At home, we tend to eat as fresh as possible. But this gets harder when we’re out. Even harder when you take into account the need for small serves and individual packaging.

Until recently, we had entirely given up on muesli bars. They’re usually far too full of sugar for an ex-diabetic to eat, and far too high GI to give decent energy. On a whim, I picked some up on sale in Woolies one lunchtime.

Wow. Muesli bars that aren’t crap!? These are great. They’re perfect for Ben as they’re just under one serve of carbohydrate, so it won’t mess with his blood sugar much, and they also taste good.

I would like to have a go at making my own muesli bars, but these are a decent commercial alternative. I never buy them full price, as I think that’s too expensive. But I’ve only known of these for a month or so, and in that time I’ve found them 30-50% off at least twice, so I stock up when they’re on sale.

What do you do for convenient but healthy snacks on the go?
