Am I Scared of Jewellery?

Am I Scared of Jewellery

Am I scared of jewellery?

The thought popped into my head the other day, seemingly out of nowhere. Though I was reading a lot of blogs at the time, so someone probably mentioned it.

I don’t wear jewellery. I never really liked it. I have some, the usual kind, gifts from being a child. I’ve never worn them. I tried to get family to take them off me. I will never wear them. They got annoyed when I said I would sell them. It clearly means something to them, but it means diddly squat to me. I don’t even know who gave any of the pieces to me. I don’t even have a wedding ring.

Am I Scared of Jewellery

If I begin to wear jewellery, will I stop being who I am? Does that mean I have given into the “you’ll do it when you’re older” (or the “You’ll Understand When You’re Older“) – which I hated hearing even as a kid. Are you supposed to hate as a kid? How did I know, even as a kid, that adults were lying about those things? Maybe I really am a finely tuned bullshit detector. In which case, I deserve a freaking medal for working corporate jobs…but that’s not quite my topic today.

I think I have liked about one piece of jewellery ever. It was a secret santa present from someone at work. It was simple, blue and held together by elastic. I think our limit was $5 that year. I’m not sure what happened to it. I have a feeling it broke. But I may have lost it.

If I wear jewellery, am I giving in to being something I’m not? Or is that a part of growing and changing?

I don’t wear much jewellery only a pair of earrings, a watch & a necklace when I’m out plus my engagement ring is on my necklace (only cause it got resized when we brought down to small size & it fitted me, but now my fingers have lost some weight on them so its big again)

That’s the only jewellery I wear in saying that my necklace is the same necklace as is my watch plus engagement ring as I only own one of each piece of them jewellerys.

On a side note love your twittering as I know follow you on twitter and am just slowly discovering your blog which I also love.

    (((( Hugs ))))

    1. Aw thanks for stopping by!

I used to wear watches but my iPhone made that a little obsolete 🙂

  2. I don’t really wear much, except wedding rings, but that could be because I’m allergic to nickle and so unless it’s the real (expensive) deal I get a rash. 🙂

    1. Good excuse to get the expensive stuff though 🙂 For your health, really haha.

  3. I think you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I accessories a lot more these days after I came to the realisation that I like big colourful bead type necklaces not fine gold ones and that I hate bracelets. I rarely change my earrings I tend to wear the same pair for a year or so. I find pretty and bright pieces can brighten up a drag outfit!

    1. Maybe that’s what I never used to like – I was given traditional gift jewellery as a kid & it’s a bit boring. Probably why I liked the blue one!

  4. I would say do what makes you happy. Don’t feel coerced into wearing it if you don’t feel comfortable with it. I only wear earrings and my wedding ring. I don’t like the feeling of bracelets, or necklaces or watches. I find it a little constrictive.

    1. It just feels strange to me to have these things dangling from me haha.

  5. Look, I’m an accessories-loving girl!

But only wear what you love. Truly love!

    1. Maybe it’s colour for me 🙂

  6. I wear a little jewellery but not a great deal. At the moment I have an ID bracelet and a bead necklace. I normally wear my engagement ring on a necklace but the necklace broke 🙁

I saw go with what makes you comfortable. If you don’t see the point in it, then don’t wear it.
