It might sound kind of cruel to be talking bout the weekend when it’s only Tuesday, but part of having a lazy weekend is the preparation, so please bear with me!
Perfect elements for a lazy weekend
Unfortunately, lazy weekends do require some planning. Just a bit. The planning is a downside of adulthood – but the upside is that you can have a lazy weekend if you want to!
Rain
Ok, so this one isn’t really something you can control. I love a rainy weekend though. It stops me from going outside or going to waste money at the shops or driving around aimlessly, or anything that I don’t really want to do. It makes me look at my house as a place to BE, rather than a place that is somewhat transitory between activities.
Cleaning
I’m sorry to say this, because I hate it myself, but if shit is in your way it is less relaxing and lazy. Do what you can to tidy your house during the week so that there is less clutter lying around. This might be clearing out your lounge, putting stuff in the car to take to an op shop…it depends where your clutter lies. For me it’s usually in the kitchen. Keeping on top of dishes makes me whole house feel much bigger.
Entertainment
What will you do? Do you have kids? Do you need a babysitter or a series of DVDs set up for them to watch? What do you want to do? Read, take a walk, journal, stare off into space, not finish thoughts…
If I don’t know what to do, then I’ll do things that I don’t really want to do but that the invisible “should” tells me to do. I’ll study. I’ll faff around on the internet and waste time on social media. Do you need to make plans? Are you happiest when chatting to friends over a glass of wine at your house?

I agree, I feel like rain gives me permission to be at home and resting, and yes to the house being clean, I simply cannot sit if it is messy.
Oh yes, a clean house, a nice warm doona and a fully-charged iPad with Netflix is my idea of weekend HEAVEN.
I’m on the same page as you, Vanessa. I definitely feel like curling up on the couch watching a DVD while it’s raining outside. And yes, the house most definitely must be clean 🙂
Yes, nothing like being able to sleep in or snuggle up in front of the telly or with a good book on a rainy weekend – unless of course you’ve planned to go to the beach/on a bike ride or some other outdoor activity! Lazy weekends to me mean sleeping in. Oh, and like you, I find it much easier to relax when the house is clean and tidy. Mess stresses me out!
