Spicy Asian Style Dipping Sauce

Ingredients For Asian Style Spicy Dipping Sauce

I first made this sauce a few years ago when some friends & I had a dumpling party. I realised I hadn’t ever gotten around to blogging it in any kind of detail*.

*Detail being kind of a vague term for someone like me who makes up cooking as they go along.

You only need three ingredients for this:

  • Hot Sauce
  • Soy Sauce
  • Sesame Oil

These are the ones that I had on hand, but obviously you can make it with whichever brands you prefer.

Grab a bowl and something to mix it with. I start with the hot sauce first, drip in some sesame oil, then top it up with some soy sauce. I literally do not measure these, so I can’t help you with that.

I’m a great food blogger. *Insert laughing/crying emoticon here*

As you can see in the photo below, the mix of ingredients don’t mix perfectly, which I think is mostly the sesame oil. Just keep stirring it and it gets better.

If I had to estimate quantities, I would guess 2-3 tablespoons of hot sauce, a teaspoon of sesame oil and 1-2 tablespoons of soy sauce. It literally is a guess though, because I just pour straight into the bowl and mix.

The best part about this is that you don’t need much as a little goes very far. But, if you need to make more, just add more like I did last time:

And, if you’re not a spicy fan, you can dial down the amount of hot sauce. Probably even replace some of it with tomato or BBQ sauce, but I haven’t tried that.

Do you have any easy to make sauces?

  1. This sounds yum! Fountain does a sauce called spicy red sauce which is more tangy than spicy, I wonder if it would work in this. I’m pretty unimaginative when it comes to cooking. I generally stick to the recipes.

It sounds like it would work as a substitute pretty well.

  2. I haven’t made a ‘hot’ sauce like that as I can’t really eat them. However, I am a ‘bit of this, add a bit of that, taste and see, then add some more’ sauce maker! This weekend I am going to make a marinade for some chicken skewers and I need to delve into my memory bank as it’s been a few years… Ingredients include mayo, chutney, barbecue sauce, soy sauce and lemon juice but don’t ask me quantities either! I think adding and tasting is the best way to cook! That sounds like a great marinade for BBQing…I can almost smell it 🙂

  3. It’s 11pm and you have just given me the worst craving for hot spring rolls.

      You’re welcome 🙂

  4. There’s no such thing as too much hot sauce!

At least, no such thing so long as you have some milk to counteract it!

  5. Yum! I really should make my own sauces and dressings more often! It’s really quite easy isn’t it! Xx

So easy and a great way of dressing up a basic meal.

  6. This sounds so simple and yummy, I reckon even I could make it.

I’ve been craving dumplings lately…got any recipes for those?
