$100 Grocery Shop

$100 Grocery Shop

This fortnight it turned out we really only did a very basic shop. And as you can see from below, that included plenty of really not critical things. We only went to Coles this week.

Sorry I cut off the bottom of the receipt. I threw it out so I can’t rescan it. I promise it was $100!

I did end up going to Woolies later for some dog worming tablets, but I don’t have a receipt for that.

Honestly, if we had been really frugal with this shop, we probably could have cut it down by an extra $30 and not noticed too much. I did buy grapes from Coles instead of our local fruit & veg shop, so it will be interesting to see how they compare in terms of staying fresh.

It’s a bit different from last fortnight where I needed ALL THE THINGS. I guess I do have my shopping in a kind of ebb and flow cycle right now.

Do you shop in cycles?

  1. I had a grocery shop recently that was $370 and it blew my socks off and I didn’t even get EVERYTHING! Mostly we average about $250 a week but I reckon we could get tighter.

It is hard to keep yourself on a tight budget – so many good things in the shops! I’ve heard that people who get really tempted do online shopping to stop the impulse buys. Do you go in person or online?

  2. Yep, I’ve noticed lots of cycles with our grocery shop. And they are predominantly affected by how much money is in the bank each week. For the last 4 weeks I’ve managed to feed us on $150 (minus bread, we buy that at a bakery) whereas our normal shop is $250. However, once the budget catches up again, I’ve run out of lots of stuff, and am fed up with pasta!

That’s the worst part of scrimping weeks – the pasta or rice. I tend to stock up on sauces when I’m able to do a bigger shop because it breaks up the scrimp weeks with a bit more flavour.

  3. We absolutely shop in ebbs and flows. Some fortnights I feel like I spend my whole life savings, and then I can get buy with like $25. That works.

The life savings ones happen to me when I start buying cheese 🙂
