Well it’s that time. The time to randomly write a bunch of links about myself. Which doesn’t generally have a time, so much as a “I want to blog but I’ve been sick for weeks and I ‘m too tired to blog”. Or something. I’ve already lost track of my point.

 

Random Post Review – Most Popular Posts So Far in 2016

 

 

1) Don’t Bank With ANZ

It depresses me that this is the most popular post (not only of this year, but I’m pretty sure of all time now. It worries me that maybe people are finding the post because accounts are being closed randomly still. I hope that people get tips on how to deal with it from my post, because ANZ were no help and only luck and a fluke solved it for me.

 

2) The Reality of Dealing With Centrelink

Again, I don’t like that this is the second most popular post. And, again, I hope it helps people. I have worked in government and have good education and good literacy – I cannot imagine how hard it would be to deal with them if you aren’t used to bureaucracy and/or literacy. I don’t think I offer much in the way of advice (because it’s Centrelink and that’s impossible!!) but I hope it helps people feel less alone when they get screwed over by them.

 

3) 4 Easy Tips to Read More Books This Year

Ah, giving advice that you yourself can’t follow. Though to be fair (to me) I have tons of books on my to-read list but uni was a last minute decision that has had to come first this year, so it’s my own making.

5) Food Shopping on a (very) tight budget

When our entire household income was my part time job, I wrote a post about our shopping budget. I  had originally been tweeting my budgets but people wanted a better look at what I was doing. This post also includes a general overview to how I stock my pantry and basic cheap food tips.

 

6) Why Is There No Life In Our Lifestyle Blogs?

Originally called “Lifestyle is not about what you can purchase”… because I wondered how I fit into being a “lifestyle” blogger.

More from a commercial/paid/Pr opportunities point of view – so very few things I was pitched EVER fit what I would do/use/write about. They were all about buying new things. I don’t really do that much. I op shop a bit, I don’t give a shit about new vacuum cleaners, I don’t wear makeup, I hate perfume and I don’t have or want to have kids. So that left me out of 99.99% of all paid (heck, even unpaid!) blogging work in that sphere.

But it was also about the generic-ness of things like Instagram feeds. I don’t want to see artfully styled desks, I want to see YOUR desk. Also, fuck flower arrangements. Then my wise friend Sarah pointed out I use Instagram the way people use SnapChat, so my disconnect with Instagram norms made sense. And ironically, I don’t like SnapChat.

 

7) Crap, I’m a Perfectionist

You know when someone makes you realise things about yourself? Damn Kelly Exeter! 🙂 This was a book review of Practical Perfection. Which I REALLY didn’t think would apply to me. AT ALL. In that post I wrote about dropping things when you need to – and that the hard part is not identifying what to drop, but actually dropping it. This past week I have desperately needed to drop something. Three weeks of a virus (or whatever the hell I have) plus wisdom teeth coming up have wrecked me. For the first time that I can think of, I had no idea what to drop. I talked to friends and then realised that I can’t drop anything, but I can apply for extensions on my uni assignments. Which I have now done and gratefully received. Breathing space = acheived.
