The Ekka Winds blew up again last weekend. On Saturday we went to a church fete that’s usually good (read: everything is like $2) but there was nothing great this time sadly. So we grabbed Subway and went to the beach to eat it only it was too windy to get out the car so we sat in the car with the windows cracked. Then on the way home we saw a branch snap off a tree that was on the top of a small cliff and twirl down to the ground.

I don’t understand how people can only have Netflix and no DVDs. I think a lot of what Netflix do, mostly in the original shows, is great. But it’s not the same as having access to your shows exactly what and when you want.

I guess it comes down to a few things:

  1. If you care to watch what everyone else is watching RIGHT FLIPPING NOW
  2. If you have reliable internet of good speed and monthly download allowance
  3. If you don’t watch DVD extras and listen to audio commentaries
  4. If you are not a re-watcher

I’m not giving up my DVDs and time soon. I re-watch a lot.

The other night I had a dream I was in Canberra and someone took me to a special McDonald’s because it was weird or something. I ordered a box of cookies but they said they didn’t have cookies anymore.

So I ordered an apple pie and they said it was $50 and I stared at them then they gave me an apple pie and a big pile of hot chips on a tray and I walked away to eat them and I don’t think they charged me.

  1. Our internet went down from friday to Monday night (thanks for nothing Telstra) so our DVD collection is the only thing we could watch! Not buying new ones but not giving up the old ones yet either.

Yep, that’s another good reason to have something offline. For when Telstra do their thing. The other year they accidentally swapped our phone line for someone else’s in my street while doing some kind of unrelated maintenance.

  2. Brilliantly random! McDonalds does charge $50 for an apple pie don’t they? I ordered an apple pie when I was in QLD recently and the taste was atrocious! More like liquid caramel and sugar-loaded. Victorian apple pies from the Golden Arches actually have chunks of apple and taste like they should. I have learnt my lesson now.

I wouldn’t know the last time I ate an apple pie there – so random that I dreamed about it. I think the only thing I eat at Maccas are hash browns.

  3. I can’t believe it but I am too lazy for DVDs. I KNOW. TOO LAZY. Maybe Netflix and other streaming capacities have ruined me. I have come to believe that having to put a DVD in a DVD player is just too hard. Wow. Just wow. Haha.
I tend to download things off iTunes if I want to keep them forever. Or I will rent online too.

I would like to complain that I have to change discs after 4 long episodes but I feel that’s too lazy to complain about haha. But I do feel it!

  4. Have you noticed DVD players and Blue Ray players are hardly advertised in catalogues anymore either. It’s all smart tvs and chrome cast!! My daughter’s Samsung Galaxy Tablet only has enough capacity for one and a half downloaded movies!! When I had Netflix it would get stuck and had a fuzzy picture because I think my TV is too old now and everyone in the neighbourhood is trying to stream at the same time!!
Pros and Cons to all I suppose

I actually hadn’t noticed that about DVD players, but now that you mention it, I can’t remember seeing one in ages! Our Xbox is our DVD and BlueRay player and Nexflix-on-the-TV all in one. It’s great for more than just games.
