Share their links on your social media

Sharing is caring. And the best part about sharing is that it is the least time-consuming way to be friendly and show your readers that you care.

Does your reader also have a blog? Do they run a small business? Easy-peasy. Find a Pin, Tweet or Facebook post that really captures who they are or what they do, and share it with your audience.

Reply to their comments

Readers who comment are my favourite. Yours too? Of course. It means that they’ve read your blog post and want to talk about it with you – kind of a holy grail of who you really want on your blog. If you’re not replying to every single comment on your blog, then start. If someone has taken the time out of their day to start a conversation with you, then you should be a good host and keep that conversation going.

Send them a thank you email for commenting regularly

Do you have a reader (or readers) who comment on nearly every single one of your posts? If you have their email address, send them an email and thank them. Let them know how much it means to you. This also goes for the person who’s always talking to you on Facebook, or RT’ing you on Twitter. Thank them.

  1. I like the idea about sending them a thank you. I try to always comment on any comments on my blog and I’ve closed comments on book reviews so people don’t feel they ‘have’ to leave a comment. It also minimises my necessity to do as much blog reading other than the day or two I participate in a link-up.

I’m also not particularly good about sharing others’ blog posts though must work on that! #teamlovinlife

    1. I go through stages when I remember to share others posts and when I forget to. It’s all about the habit… which I don’t have right now haha.

  2. Great tips and I agree with them all. The thank you note to regular commenters is a good one. I haven’t done that before but I probably should! #TeamLovinLife

I don’t think I’ve taken my own advice on that one either haha.

  3. Oh I like this Vanessa. Thank you for timely tips. Denyse x

    1. You’re welcome 🙂

  4. So simple & yet so so so often overlooked. I don’t understand the ones who link & run. Love the idea of the thatnkyou note…speaking of which – thankyou!

Thank YOU and you’re welcome 🙂

  5. I think we all love to receive comments and that is why this linkup is fantastic! I have my regular commenters and yes I should reward them in some small way for staying loyal. Great idea! #TeamLovinLife

    1. Comments are the lifeblood of blogging. I could get a million pageviews a month (HA) and still be disappointed if that meant no comments.

  6. I’ve noticed that on many american and british blogs, it’s not the norm for the writer of the blog to reply to comments. I love the interaction that I get from my blogging community, and get a buzz from providing content that is helpful for someone else.

    1. I used to try some US link ups but found I didn’t get much genuine interaction out of them, so I stopped. Some commented but it was so ungenuine I wasn’t interested.

  7. I reply to all the comments on my blog – sometimes I think I should install some sort of comment system that shows up in their email boxes, but I get so tired of all the ones I get in mine that I’ve never followed up on it. I figure if I’m interested enough I’ll pop back and read the reply. I think your email to regular commentors is a great compromise.

  8. I’m with others on liking the idea of sending a thank you email. I recently started a new blog, to run alongside my book blog, and it would be good I think if I thanked the people who came with me.

  9. Great ideas – I love answering the comments on my blog – it feels as if I’m building a community. I’ll know I’ve made it though when my followers reply to one another! x #Lovin’LifeLinky

  10. Great and easy tips. I have never thought of the third one and will do that. Thanks Julie

  11. I’m just my own lovable self 😉 … no seriously, what a lovely idea to thank my readers – food for thought thank you. Oh, and did you get my email yesterday?!

    1. I did – but I’m having a fuzzy head week. I have some ideas though and I will reply 🙂

  12. Yes! Such great tips! I really appreciate it when people take the time to comment – not least because it means that I’m not talking to myself – so I always love to reply. Blogging for me is like a conversation, so the replying is the fun part! I love to send snail mail or an email to regular readers/commenters to thank them for their continued support because it means a lot. If a reader/commenter has their own blog, I try and visit that too, join in their stories and conversation and leave comments on their blog too!

    1. Oh snail mail is fun! I have one actual pen pal these days and I love it when I get letters.

  13. The thank you email is a great idea. Timely tips.

  14. Love your tips Vanessa. I agree that the email to regular commenters is a fab idea! 🙂 #TeamLovinLife
