Pinterest Tips from ProBlogger

I attended Ruth Soukup’s session at ProBlogger on Pinterest . I am a big Pinterest fangirl, though I have been a bit slack at using it to its full potential this year.

 

The first thing Ruth said that really, really stuck with me was the value of Pinterest. Pinterest is DESIGNED to LET YOU share your blog content. Think about that next time you’re struggling with reach on Facebook. That is a really valuable reason in itself to have an active Pinterest account.

While I’m not a quantitative person by nature, one statistic I did enjoy was learning that the average visit on Pinterest is 15.3 minutes long. That is a lot of potential content being read (and maybe being commented on). I think bloggers really need to be a part of it.

DO’s and DON’Ts for Pinterest

 

DO:

  • help people solve a problem
  • share fantastic content
  • care about the click through to your blog
  • use words like habits and hacks
  • improve your own photography
  • closely crop your photos
  • keep photos light and bright (use warm colours)
  • keep your descriptions conversational and to about 200 characters

 

DON’T

  • think it’s all about DIY hacks and recipes
  • think it’s just a pretty picture
  • focus on repins
  • use faces
  • use hashtags
  • use too many fonts on your image
