What I Learned About Writing From Using Yoast

For the longest time as a blogger, I outright ignored SEO. I didn’t understand it and I hated the idea of Google “telling me” how I should write my blog posts. Who are they to tell me what’s good or bad, right?

What I Learned About Writing From Using Yoast

I “gave in” one day, many years ago now, and installed the  Yoast SEO plug in. Initially, I only installed it because it gave me the way of having a great description for my posts – and pulls data perfectly for Pinterest, which is a top traffic driver for me.

Despite the fact that I didn’t want to have anything to do with SEO, I went ahead with it. As you can see here, I have a simple blogging workflow.

All I really do is put the title in H1 tags, subheadings in H2 tags and include an image.

So, rather than being restricted by what  Yoast wants me to write, I’ve actually made it easier for readers to skim and skip to what they want to read.

Most of the time I reach that coveted green light very easily. Not 100% of the time, but then again not all posts need that!

Basically, I want to say that you shouldn’t be scared of Yoast or think that you’ll have to write like a robot. Just give it a go. I put very little effort into SEO and it helps. It’s not my main source of traffic, but it’s very simple and adds up in the long run.

Do you spend much time on SEO?

  1. I spend no time on SEO’s and it shows…;)

    1. Pretty much the same for me these days. Things I like to write about aren’t hugely “searchable”. Oh well
