It’s October 2019. I logged into the new NaNoWriMo website. Apparently, I signed up in 2005. Woah. I’ve been part of this for 14 years.
Why I’ll Always Love (And Fail) At NaNoWriMo
And I have failed every single year since 2005.
NaNoWriMo is a community where we all help and encourage each other to write a novel of 50,000 words each November. But you can be a NaNo rebel like me and still participate. Some people use the month to rewrite a book, add to a book, write non fiction, poetry… you name it. It’s less about the rules and more about the community to help you get a chunk of work done.
Why Do I Like Failing?
Because it’s not really failing. Sure, the goal is 50,000 words, but in a rare moment that will always sound corny… There’s no such thing as failing in NaNo. Writing ANY additional words to you work is a success.
My 2019 NaNo Project(s)
As you know, I love my shiny objects, so I’m being a half NaNo rebel this year. I have the first book in a new series mostly completed. It’s just under 10,000 words, and at the moment 10-12k is my goal for books. I have the concepts for seven more books in this new series, so my goal for NaNoWriMo 2019 is to write five of the books. At 10k words each, that’s theoretically doable.
Have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo? Is there a less corny way to say there’s no such thing as failure because all progress is good progress? Coming to join me in November as I freak out over writing so much?

That’s a pretty cool goal! Are you doing nonfiction or fiction? I’m with you on failing it whenever I’ve tried. Although I’ve done it seriously only once before and got to 40000 words which I was pretty okay with. This year, I’m going to do it but I’m less prepared than 2017 so I’m not sure how I’ll go. Plus I’ll be packing and moving as well during November. I obviously don’t do things in halves!
I still don’t really know if it’s fiction or not fiction. I’m just making fun of a lot of things. Satire? I find there is always stuff in November (used to be when all my assignments were due) so it’s just natural to assume NaNo is hard to fit in!
