It’s time… things are a-changing.
Change Is Happening
This has been a long time coming with lots of stops, starts and bureaucracy in the way and delaying things, but I have resigned from my permanent job. At time of the publication of this post, I have three working days left.
Resigning from my permanent job wasn’t my preferred option but things play out as they do. I was long OVER my job and didn’t like the direction that plans were being made for it so it was always going to be coming to an end, one way or another!!
I’m going directly into another job, a two year contract in a rapidly expanding area. It’s where I was for a few months last year on a secondment and I really enjoy the people and work. It’s a lot (see above: rapidly expanding) but it keeps me on my toes and thinking and that’s really important to me in a job. Being bored kills my soul and physically hurts me because I boredom slouch at desks.
I’ve been struggling to put effort in during my notice period. I’m not being a completely terrible employee, but I also can’t claim I’m exactly highly motivated. The best I could say is that I’m not holding anything up. I’m not being proactive like I usually am to fix things before they need fixing.
I knew I had made the right decision when I started having fantasises on the way home last week about winning the lotto so I never had to work again. That’s a good sign to me that I’m over a job or something – it has been a recurring feature in jobs when I’m DONE with them that I have those sorts of thoughts. And I never once had those thoughts last year in the job I’m going back to.
On paper, I know some people think I’m a bit silly to have quit a permanent job. But a) I wouldn’t have lasted much longer anyway and b) permanent is only theoretical – everyone is only one restructure away from being unemployed anyway.
Any changes happening in your life?
Congratulations on taking that step. No point staying in a job where you’re unhappy or the culture isn’t great. I always find once you’ve handed in your resignation, you check out mentally and it can be so hard to motivate yourself for those last few weeks. Only 3 more days so yay!
The final three days went pretty fast in the end 🙂

I have been very lucky with timing and the job and the people, I think! Here’s hoping it goes on for a long time.
Life is way too short to be in a job that is not fulfilling. At times like this, I like to think of the saying “jump and the net will appear” and your net has definitely appeared. As your next post is for 2 years, I think you can kick, back, relax and enjoy your new position!
Yep, now that I’m back in the new job I’ve giving myself some time to settle in and relax into it.
Permanent really is theoretical these days – as you say, you’re only one restructure away. Enjoy your new contract & good on you for making the jump.

I’m a bit skilled at expecting too much from myself but I’m trying to remember to chill a bit as I settle back into the job!
Watching it all unfold as it did I knew how hard it was to stay. Safe old me would have been worried about the permanency but you could not survive in that environment. I am so glad you are leaving for the better..only 2 more sleeps as far as I can count.

In the end it was an easy decision – which job could I see myself doing for two years? And yeah, I’ve taken quite a bit of time away from link ups becuase I had a lot of writing going on. Trying to get back into it and catch up with people this year.
