When people do an AMA (ask me anything) my first reaction is to ask “IS the only way up” … from that song lyric. The thing is, I don’t even really know the song very well. But it’s always what I want to ask. I wish I knew why. But also it’d probably tell me some weird shit about my brain so maybe I don’t want to know why?

I know I’ve ranted about this one before, but people who post on a second hand site with the RRP and say “make me an offer”… No, grow the fuck up, and set your own price. Cos if it’s just something I want, rather than need, I’ll offer you like $20 and you’ll be horrified and offended because to you it’s worth $300. We all measure value differently and I have VERY different amounts I will spend on wants (I’ll op shop, wait, spend time) over needs. Surely I can’t be the only one who can distinguish my wants from my needs and value accordingly?

I thought this was a thought provoking statement on creativity:

I placed a book on hold at the library and it kept telling me that I had borrowed it before. At the reserve page. At the checkout screen. It’s like…. ok, can you stop shaming me for not reading it the first time around?! Sheesh-a-baloney. Also, I still haven’t started it again. I guess I won’t be reading it?

“Push yourself out of your comfort zone to succeed” is not only terrible ‘advice’ masquerading as a unique idea from every generic piece of shit “thought leader” out there but incredibly abelist as well. (Have written about this before too.)

I’m trying to decide what computer to buy next as both of ours are getting very hard to use but ugh apple gives you such a bullshit level of info. Like I can see option 1 is ‘8th gen’ processor and option 2 is ’10th gen’ but what does it MEAN? Tell me the implications please … so annoying.

  1. Ness,

You’ve itched that spot of mine regarding ‘thought leaders’ and their generic comments…

Thank you. It felt good .

It really bugs me – stating some generic thing but it’s ground breaking if it was said on a stage with a big sign behind them…nah. Not my thing.

  2. Your post made me smile Ness. I procrastinate over buying something I want online that they’re sold out by the time I finally make up my mind. Same thing happened when I needed a new laptop. My son found me a great deal and a week later I decided yes I will get it. They were all gone. 🙂

It’s a hard decision because laptops cost a lot! I don’t like spending that much. And our current computers, while annoying, could either stop working tomorrow or go on for another year.

  3. Ha! Love your randoms. I have to confess to doing the same thing with a library book. OK, OK, I borrowed it and never read it. Sheesh! I’m sorry!!! 🙂

I didn’t end up reading it this time either haha. I did skim a few bits but it was then I realised things in it were SO out of date – it suggested people learn what a digital camera is instead of a film one.

  4. These are the sorts of questions my daughter and I ask each other – like where do snails live when it’s not raining or you haven’t planted new seedlings…things like that.

I like weird conversations much more than small talk 🙂

  5. Oh the APPLE confusion…what does it mean?? I still love Apple and they are all I have. I did venture into a laptop for Uni teaching years ago and what a waste.

However, I do get annoyed about the up-sell in everything these days.

Where we bought our cars, five years ago, is where we get them serviced. One time last year I got a call from the Service Dept about what they “thought” we should know about my car and what they recommended happen”…It was going to cost $000 and I said no. When I picked the car up I spoke to someone about it and was told, oh that’s our sales in case you want to do that. I was furious and emailed the manager of service that we were NEVER to be rung via a scheduled service to”add” something “they” wanted to sell us.

Sorry, got carried away. Good luck with the shopping – for the computer.

Thanks for linking up this week for #LifeThisWeek. Next week the optional prompt is 34/51 Self-Care Stories. #5. 24.8.2020 and I hope to see you there. Take care, Denyse.

I once had a free service via a complaint I’d lodged and they kept calling me all day to add things I had to pay for to the service. I kept telling them to read the letter to me because they were all actually included for free. Dodgy as hell.
