Spammer networking

Spammer networking

I logged into linked in – a platform I maybe hate more than Facebook – to do a favour for a friend. I feel like the endorsing for skills is an adult, a so called professional version of like for like (a tactic I hate) but hey, it was for a friend, it was the truth, and, inexplicably, I guess some people like linked in?

Anyhoos, I rarely log in so naturally I had DMs waiting for me. For once I wasn’t being sold to, but I did have an entirely unconnected person sitting there, ready with a DM.

They were asking to connect with me because they were a good networker.

That’s it.

I don’t think they realised that spamming people is not networking.

It’s like a podcast always says, conduct yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man.

In this case, a mediocre white man who thinks that spamming is networking.

  1. I’m with you on Linked In…I can’t stand it. I’m not a massive fan of Facebook either – needs must and all that. And yep, those ones that attempt to connect for no reason other than being a good networker? Seriously?

I’ve pretty much abandoned my Fb Pages and just use it for groups now. Linkedin… some of them just have WAY too much unearned confidence 🙂

  2. I was on Linked In years ago, and then never went back. They want stuff from you like more details. I do know my son who has his own biz finds it helpful. I am much more picky these days about where and who I connect with. Keep Instagram private still does not stop the bots and spammers wanting to follow either.

I have linked in but really really do not see the appeal!

  3. I”ve had to rejoin Linked In. Our workplace pushes it heavily as THE resume sharing tool. I’d never liked it (I still don’t) but I’m having to at least use it now. My husband’s workplace also pushes it, He dislikes it even more than me … but as a sales exec, he needs it more than me as that’s how their networks are apparently made. Anyway, we’re being strongly guided in the Linked In direction. Honestly, I thought it was dead … but there are people who thrive there. Who knew?

I really never see anything but spam messages and irrelevant jobs … I hear stories of people who get a lot out of it but it baffles me as to how!
