A New Laptop Will Make You A Successful Writer (And Other Lies)

A New Laptop Will Make You A Successful Writer (And Other Lies)

The things us writers tell ourselves… well, I guess it’s no surprise that we can be creative. That is hopefully a given.

I kind of like/hate it when it manifests itself through technology though.

There’s something about a tightly sealed box, freshly minted plastic and electronics… it’s such a sweet, sweet smell.

It almost distracts you from the unnecessary thousands you spent on it.

But of course, it doesn’t end there. Because even when he shiny new plastic and electronics have lost their new car smell, the temptation is there. Maybe that new software tool will make me a successful writer. And if that one doesn’t work, maybe the next one will.

What’s a lie you like to tell yourself?

  1. I can so relate to this!! All the best as you unpack and start using your new laptop! #lifethisweek

  2. I lie to myself about being healthier. It’s always, ‘Tomorrow I’ll….”

And on the writing front I also keep thinking I’ll be in the right headspace down the track… which never comes.

  3. I just got a new laptop. My last one tried to drink a whole cup of coffee and it didn’t agree with it. So here I am feeling so much more successful than I did just 2 minutes ago. 🙂 Thanks for that! 🙂

  4. I love love love opening an Apple product. There I said it. I love the care they put into packaging and how you get absorbed in the ‘what’s next’ as you take the lid off the box.

I know they are expensive but for their use in our every day lives they are awesome. Now, about my almost 4 year old Ipad…what possible justification do I have to upgrade? None.. At All.
