Assumptions, that’s what this headline is saying. I just really wanted to focus on the ASS bit because this is all about a divide which I think is bullshit.
The divide between “disabled” and “disabling health condition” has been growing and I feel like it’s about to escalate wildly.
There are so many assumptions behind health conditions.
- The diagnosis of a health condition assumes a treatment is possible.
- That the treatment(s) work.
- That patients can tolerate side effects.
- That patients can afford the treatment.
- That the treatment can be delivered where the patient can physically access it.
- That the doctor believes the condition exists and will even order treatment.
These are all reasons why it’s not a given that a health condition is non disabling.
