I spent yesterday afternoon zoning out in front of the TV with the Commonwealth Games on. Now, not being a huge sports fan, the most I’ve ever liked watching them on TV was when I was whacked out on painkillers and very sick.
I thought instead of thinking about how boring the sports were, I should think up ways to make them more interesting.
I was watching some cycling events – I have no idea what the point of these were, but they had one or two people on the bike and, two bikes on the track at a time, they went around in circles for some reason.
Not be (too) rude to people who have dedicated time, blood, sweat and tears to becoming world experts, but it’s just not interesting to me. So how do you make it actually interesting? Well, despite not being a reality TV watcher, you can’t escape the bombardment of ads for shows. So I know that Masterchef exists. Which gave me an idea.
Pancakes. They have to cook them while cycling. But wait, there’s more! They also have to flip them. And the flips are judged and graded on how many flips and how fancy the flips are!
Now THAT is a sport I would watch!
Are there any sports that you find very boring? How would you liven them up?

The only possible way to make sports more interesting is to go all old-school Greek-style and have everyone do it nude. Problem solved!
That’s one option. Though I think some would hurt more than others doing their sporting in the nude!
Ouch – cycling in the nude… Ouch!
I’m with you on the cycling stuff – I don’t get it… the going slow, fast, slow etc… WTF?!
And the looking behind ….wouldn’t it just be better to concentrate on going forwards?
I think you’re onto something with this sports mashup idea. Gymnasts should have to jump hurdles. Shot putters should have to complete a marathon before throwing. Wrestlers should do a clean-and-jerk weightlift mid-fight. Our attention spans are getting shorter, athletes need to work to hold the viewers’ interest! 😉
Gymnasts would be good at hurdles!
Sorry, I am one of those who loves sports and is loving the Olympics! Only because I’m too competitive for my own good and I love that we are winning everything! I even LOVED watching the marathon last night – RUNNING! How boring?!!? But an Aussie WON!! We are not supposed to win marathons!??! That is amazing in my eyes! At least netball girls and hockey try to make it interesting by throwing a few elbows once in a while 🙂
Haha I like some sports….just not many. And I’d rather do them than watch them 🙂 I did play netball a few times throughout school & uni – talk about a violent game!
I agree. Most sport is pretty boring but none more than golf which my husband enjoys watching. You can’t even see the damn ball!
Oh, but driving golf carts is fun! I’ve considered taking up golf purely for that 🙂
Great minds! GO US. I kinda like watching sport, but only if I know someone I root for is competing. Although I would love to see jelly wrestling as a sport, men though, not women! x
Do they have to cook the jelly first haha?
[…] instead I’m blogging, reading, applying for jobs & commenting on this week’s laugh link. I’m totally not procrastinating though. I have to comment on posts to be a good linky […]
Get behind thee Satin. In the immortal words of HG Nelson … “To much sport is barely enough”
Haha, I guess maybe I just need to find the right sport for me ?
