My #itsinthebag Bag for 2016

Believe in unicorns

A few weeks ago, I told you about what happened to me, and how this year I have chosen to support the #itsinthebag campaign. Well, time worked out well for me this morning and I manage to complete my bag!

What I really love about this fundraiser is that it’s simple, personal, fun – and most importantly, will really help someone!

This is my #itsinthebag and all the contents:

You don’t have to spend a lot. My bag was not expensive, and the contents came from Kmart, Terry White, and Coles. All easy to find stores. My bag cost $13.50 to put together:

  • $2 for the bag (Kmart)
  • $1 each for the: earplugs, tissues, lip balm, antibacterial wipes, eye mask, lint roller (all Terry White), panty liners (Coles), vanilla body butter and argan oil hair treatment (Kmart)
  • $2.50 for the tampons (Coles)

I also popped a small card in the bag, with a personal note (not shown) written on the back:

The campaign collection runs from November 19th to December 3rd, so you have HEAPS of time to put something together and find a local donation point. There are some great tips (and a few items to exclude) on this page.

UPDATE: I also went through my bathroom and found some great samples that I hadn’t used in ages, so I figured it would better to give them to someone in need:

Will you join in with #itsinthebag this Christmas?

    1. I really do love simple and effective charity ideas.

  1. It is a good idea and I am considering doing this too. I know there is a receiving place in my area so will check it out further. Thanks!

  2. I’m totally going to do this too – I’ve got some really quality handbags to upcycle and I can’t wait to get filling. Thanks for the inspo!

    1. Unfortunately none of mine were good enough to donate, which is why I went with buying one.

  3. What a wonderful charity! I need to find out if we have something similar in my area of the US.

    1. I think there are a few that donate tampons, I want to say I came across one that was started by a college student….but I can’t remember where I saw it!

  4. I love this idea Vanessa and saw you share it on social media. Will look into it!!!!

    1. It’s a simple one to help out.

  5. I am soooo loving this. LOVE LOVE LOVE
I saw Amy’s post on it too. As I said on hers, I actually got one of my older handbags last year and filled it with stuff like this to hand to a homeless lady in Sydney, but then I got scared I might offend her so I didn’t give it to her in the end. I’m totally getting on board with this.
Thanks for joining the Lovin’ Life Linky!
    See you next week.

    1. You were on the right track – hopefully there will be a collection point near you for this charity.

  6. I have 3 bags ready to go with similar contents. I lost my Mum back in September and she had a number of very smart leather bags, so I’m giving them to the cause (filled with goodies of course). Might even go for a 4th if I go through my own bags!! #TeamLovinLife

    1. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your mum, but what a nice way to give her an additional legacy xox

  7. I’ve seen this around a bit lately, it’s on my shopping list for tomorrow!

(thanks for linking up with #thisparentinglife)

    1. Good on you!
