NaNoWriMo Prep 2021 Part 3
Welcome to part three of “oh shit I need to prepare if I’m going to get through NaNoWriMo this year”. You can also read part 1 and part 2. Here I reached one question I could easily answer:
Image description: a screenshot of a digital workbook that says: Session 2 Create Complex, Believable Characters. It then has a space where you can fill in details for your characters family. I have written in “dead”.
I know it’s not the most original to have a maybe YA book with dead parents. But as you may have seen in part 2, I don’t 100% know what age my character is. I do know that if they have parents, they don’t serve a story purpose so there’s no need to reconsider and add them in. Lacking parents does serve a story purpose, but less of the usual story purpose. This is actually one area where I could elaborate more, but I haven’t finished the worldbuilding around it, so it’s not quite the time to share it in that much detail.
Still, it was very nice to come across a question in the prep workbook that I could answer with confidence!
By the way, I write a lot about creativity (and creativity with a chronic illness) on my Patreon page. You can join for as little as $AUD 1.50/month.
