Every year since about 2006, I have won attempted NaNoWriMo.
National Novel Writing Month
Only it’s so popular that it’s international. And if you want, there are groups around dedicated to breaking the novel part of the rules.
The point being, I’ve actually yet to complete NaNoWriMo.
Every November stuff happens. When I was at uni – exams. When I was working – new jobs/change of jobs. Or moving house.
Excuse? Maybe.
But failing NaNo doesn’t mean too much to me anymore.
I really like some of the stories I’ve come up with. One of them would make a great commercial movie.
One of those things that I work on from time to time.
And I will complete when it suits me.
Do you participate in NaNoWriMo? Have you ever ‘won’ it?
I have a post scheduled up for tomorrow about my nano efforts. I didn’t make the end, not even close but it was an interesting experience.
It’s a bit like school exams to me – a little bit of pressure to squeeze an idea out. Then write it how and when it suits!
No I haven’t although I have thought about it a lot. I think it would be too much pressure for me in my situation. Sorry to hear you didn’t make it. I think it is important to never beat yourself up about not ‘winning’. The point of it is to motivate you to write, so if you wrote something then it served its purpose!
I think it’s easier to write when you have a community anyway – like for blogging, or for a writers group challenge…something to motivate rather than stress you!
I’ve always wanted to do NaNoWriMo, but without fail, every year, November is NOT a good month for me. I keep saying I should suck it up and do it anyhow, but I think I’m too scared to actually fail. But I think making ANY progress on writing something would be good, whether you “win” or not!
Anything sure is better than nothing!
