Marketing Pet Peeves

Online marketing techniques that annoy me. I sign up for a lot of email lists. I also unsubscribe a lot, because my inbox gets overwhelming.

Marketing Pet Peeves

Here’s the thing. I love the online space and how easily it lets me communicate with others. But there are so many little things that people do which bug me,

Most recently it has been:

“Re:” in email subject line

This is faking a relationship with me. I didn’t send you an email in the first place, so making it say Re: is just plain dodgy.

Emailing only to sell

This is one that I have occasionally been guilty of, for sure. But this is why I’m working on consistency in 2016. I do mention one or the other of my eProducts in each weekly email, but it’s not the focus of the email. It’s basically a footnote. Not much different to if I had advertising in the sidebar of my blog.

A few years ago, I was on ALL the email lists. I was trying to learn so much. And what I noticed is that they were super helpful and super engaged lists in the lead up to a launch.  Then…crickets. 6 or 12 months later, it repeated itself. Consistency is hard, for sure. But it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.
